Good Morning Everyone!! I thought I would check in with a little Show and Tell. Here is my embroidery quilt I finished. As you can see I really like brights :o)

This is a fabric line I just fell in love with. The pattern was free. The fabric designers made it. It's called Happy, by Jennifer Heynen. This is our couch cuddle quilt. :o)

And then I made this with my Scrap Buster group. You could only use fabric and thread that you owned. You could NOT go buy anything. I even pieced my batting.

Ironing Pad :)

here's my first go around with the ironing pad! I'm pleased with the way it turned out by following the directions from the tutorial. There could be a little clearer directions in some parts , or rather, easier steps, but for the first go around, I'm happy. Oh, it's about 19 x 19.

I didn't quilt it up to much, but I can always add some more lines later. I wanted to get through the project to see how I can tweek it for another one. Maybe when we are all done, we can revise the tutorial to make it our own including options that we all think would be interesting.

My thoughts:

1. I wanted to get more creative with the outside fabric, but was afraid that additional quilting or embelishment would make for bumpy ironing. Seeing how it turned out, I think some piecing would be fine on the exterior. (that why I picked this fabric- busy but also my favorite that I've been hoarding and saving for a while!)

2. The string length isn't given, so I cut a safe 41 inches. Too long, but better than too short. The placement of the ribbon/tie on the back center doesn't feel right. When I make knitting needle wraps, I place the tie on the edge. This way, if the pad is rolled up tighter or looser, it doesn't make a difference. The "sewed down" part of the ribbon gets in the way when it's rolled up tighter.

3. The size is encouraged to be square. It really can be any dimension. Obviously not table-sized, but really, it could be. I've never used one before.

Hmm, I guess that's it!

I'm new to the state, and new to blogging. I got the chance to meet wonderful gals at the MQG meeting at Jona's house. I think this is a great group to hang out with and quilt with. I look forward to being inspired. Here is the big quilt I brought with the binding finished.

This is a quilt as you go project. I quilted it in sections. It is 90x90. All scraps from my scrap bin.

I'm having a wonderful time putting together some quilts for my boys (will re-paint their room and other stuff too as long as I'm at it). I haven't made many quilts but I'm realizing some nearly make themselves while others feel like work. This goes in the former category. Since my wonderful Grandpa died 5 years ago I've had some of his shirts hanging in my closet waiting for me to do something with them. Now I'm finally chopping them into pieces to be kept forever.
Each block has a square from a shirt in the center and I'll add more around the outer edge when I get there. I love them. I love that I think of my grandpa when I look at them and they'll remind me to take opportunities to tell my boys how lucky they are to be his great-grandchildren.

I'm including lots of tool prints from the Be A Man collection since he was always fixing things and had a great set of tools. I don't think he ever threw anything away, he just fixed it and kept using it. I want my boys to be useful like that and fortunately their dad has mad fixing skills so they are learning. I love they way this is so boyish without being baby-ish. I've managed to sneak in a few florals but they are so subdued that they fit right in (and there's nothing wrong with boys appreciating flowers).

Anyway, here's the finished concept (I'm planning for grey in the solid areas). I'll have the pdf pattern on my blog once I've finished and seen that this actually works (fingers crossed). I'm going to cheat and use sheet's for the backing like I did last time.

Quilt Happenings

Well, since I've never posted any of my stuff here before, I thought I'd go ahead and start with a couple of quilts. First, my favorite of ALL TIME:

This one was made using charms from the Tufted Tweets line by Laurie Wisbrun. I included a white center square and embroidered some of my favorite chairs from history (I studied Interior Design in college). It took a while, but I absolutely love the end result.

Next, I used Kirsten's pattern and made this Toss Up quilt.

It was my first time using a conglomeration of different prints, patterns, and colors and I really like the end result. This pattern was really easy too. Which of course I liked a lot!

I just finished this one up, following the Twin Fibers Modern Times quilt-along. It had in-set seams so I got to learn a new piecing skill.

There's a few, for starters! I'm always working on something, though.

The collaborative quilt for the Bliss circle of do. Good Stitches is finally complete! A clean backing of Kona Celery and a printed binding finished it off beautifully. I have to mention again how proud I am to have done this. And my girls in the circle did a great job of stitching the blocks for it. (THANKS AGAIN GIRLS!)

I'm so sad to see it go, but I know that it will be going to someone who will be able to give it much more love than we (the Bliss circle) can. My husband even said, "what? you have to give THAT ONE away?!" Yes, dear. Yes I do.

Tomorrow this little bundle of Bliss gets shipped off to the Wrap Them In Love charity.

Bye-bye pretty quilt. I know you'll make someone somewhere reeeeaally happy and loved.

O.k. so someone (JONA?) asked us to blog about what we're doing......so.....here it is!! Isn't this a sad sight? We've been in our house for a whole month, but the studio is of course the LAST to get worked on. My new studio is much smaller than my last one. It is a complete disaster, but I decided to get EVERYTHING out, and organize it!!! It hasn't been all work though, you can see a preview of my "valentine" for our next meeting. I DO plan on attending, and I dare anyone to get in my way :) Happy quilting ladies, can't wait to see you!!

I'm finally finished with my latest quilt and ready to move on (my post here). I really love it and I think I'm ready to make a real bed-sized quilt. I used the pattern that's pictures on the cover of the Spring 2010 issue of B H & G Quilt's and More magazine.

Here is a before/after picture of the quilt. I really love the part where I pull it out of the dryer!

On to the next one!

Blogger's Pillow Party - Plus Patchwork

When Rachel over at Stitched In Color announced her Blogger's Pillow Party, I had to join. Had to. Why would I miss this? I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make myself a spanky new pillow and join the fun!

I've put in the last few stitches on the binding tonight; just in the nick of time!

You see, I have an old dark leather club-chair in my bedroom that was just begging for a little personality. It couldn't be to pretty or too plain. It's my husband's "sit, watch TV and eat ice cream" chair; so keeping it less frilly was a must. I decided to use Innocent Crush for the pluses and a linen border, with one little plus hand stitched with floss. I paired it with some Momo Freebird in an eggplanty color for the binding to bring out some of the darker colors in the palette. A buttoned closure was added in the back (my first time using my buttonholer {pat on the back}) and voila! A new piece of (manly-ish) prettiness for my room. It is a little more plump than I wanted, but I'm sure it will be squished down and perfectly comfy in no time.

I might not have done it perfectly, but it works. I'm pretty darn proud of me.

Our First Annual Holiday Gathering!!!

Okay, I don't know about everyone else but I had a blast! Here is our group at the Old Spaghetti Factory holding up our new pin cushions. I'm in love with the one B.J. made for me (and the chocolate in the bottom of the bag didn't hurt) and everyone else seemed pretty pleased too!

Here are Jamie, Tiffany, Carrie, Kerri, B.J., Roslyn, Michelle, Alissa, and Liana.

Isn't this a cute picture of Michelle and Tiffany? They exchanged gifts and the donut Tiffany made even had shiny "sprinkles" on it. The one Michelle made (with the Heather Ross bike in the middle) weighed enough to be considered a deadly projectile and I need to go get some of that stuffing from her.

Here are all of our pin cushions together in a happy bunch. That is Liana's arm modeling (great job Liana!). :)

It seems that all our tile we've been doing
has been subway tile. So...I decided to make
a subway tile quilt.

The above quilt was greatly inspired by Paula Prass. I love putting together fabrics this way!!!! No pattern, just fun!!!

Angela's Outside the Box Quilt

I just wanted to show you how the Outside the Box quilt came out. The brown isn't as dark as my previous ones but I am happy with it. It was hard to get a good picture inside in the dark but you get the idea.

This is from "The Modern Quilt Workshop" by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr if you are interested in the pattern. She has a great blog too called Craft Nectar. They are coming out with a new book soon and I can hardly wait to get my hands on it!

(First two photos are completed "Outside the Box" quilts...the first is my daughter's and the other is my honorary daughter's.)

I am so excited to post on the new Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild Blog...I thought I would break the ice and post on what I am working on. Today I sewed up the blocks for "Outside the Box" from the book "The Modern Quilt Workshop." I am trying to decide on the best layout if I just use these nine blocks. There will be a brown strip between the rows but I just wanted to compare and get the general idea.

So which one do you like best? Or do you have any suggestions for me?
